Warning

After nearly 50 years on planet earth, I introduce to you, me. I am here. I’ve been watching you quietly and I have a few observations. Don’t expect me to be coherent. Coherence is overrated. If you have been watching, like me, you realize that coherence is likely a fad in the scope of human evolution. The future is totally incoherent. My couple hundred thousand year old ancestors were hairy incoherent apes, and my lineage never really got on board with the coherence movement. If you are one of the unfortunate many to claim life started only a few thousand years ago, you are an idiot, a liar, a political opportunist, insane, or in extreme denial. You probably don’t want to read on. Really, I guarantee you will be offended by my observations and the language used to describe my observations. For instance, I am very comfortable with many variations of the term fuck and the methods of fucking. But enough about me.

The Complicated Truth About Lying

on Fri, 11/04/2011 - 17:52

I’ve been thinking about truth. Not the philosophical meaning of truth. I’ve been thinking about telling the truth. Not about telling a particular truth (which is none of your business anyway). I’ve been thinking about how to know when to tell the truth. Some people say that it is best to always tell the truth. They are, of course, lying. Telling the truth can be painful, ruin lives, or even kill people. It seems reasonable to apply a bit of thought to the truth or lie decision. As we all know, every moment is a combination of joy and pain. So deciding whether or not to tell the truth must depend on the expected joy:pain ratio that would result after telling the truth or lying.

Finding, subverting, and telling truths is a multi-billion dollar industry. Almost everyone believes in, fears, admires, aspires to truth telling. Everyone wants at least to be thought of as a truth teller regardless of their ‘truthiness’. Truth has great marketing. The Truth brand leads you to believe that being truthful will get you closer to heaven, nirvana, enlightenment, joy, satisfaction, ecstasy, comfort, and even the truth. On the surface there seems no harm in telling the truth.

Radical Moderates

on Wed, 07/06/2011 - 19:19

We could really use a pack of angry moderates these days. The middle class is under attack. A clever indirect attack fueled by greed. For some inexplicable reason, seriously greedy super rich people are supported politically by a group of crazy angry Republicans. Some of these Republicans are super rich or have a legitimate chance of becoming super rich. Most of the regular supporters have less than a slim chance of enriching themselves or their families. In any case, they aren’t rich now. So what the fuck is up?

It isn’t news that rich people are getting richer and everyone else is getting a slow comfortable screw. It isn’t necessarily bad either. It is a major problem when a bunch of greedy rich folks step over a line. We can all get greedy, but if you have serious money you can be seriously greedy. That level of greed can dump a bucket load of pain on a lot of regular working stiffs.

It isn’t clear what the seriously rich, seriously greedy people are after. Maybe just the thrill of power or an extravagant lifestyle that makes it easy to pickup chicks. I’m going out on a limb here suggesting most of these people are men. They are probably not all psychopaths.
